The York Glaziers Trust

Over 50 Years of Excellence in Stained Glass Craft and Conservation

The York Glaziers Trust (YGT) is the oldest and largest specialist stained glass conservation studio in Britain, and one of the largest in Europe, counting amongst its staff three ICON accredited conservators (ACRs) among its 16 members of staff. The YGT is a charitable trust dedicated to the care and conservation of historic stained glass in York Minster and throughout the UK, and is a centre of excellence for conservation, innovation, research, and training.

The Trust undertakes conservation projects on behalf of owners and custodians of stained glass of all periods, in historic and modern buildings, from great cathedrals to the smallest of parish churches, in museums and art galleries, and in private collections. Based in a workshop in the centre of the historic city of York, the Trust offers a wide-ranging service, including conservation, repair and protection of medieval stained glass, of enamel painted glass of the 17th century and Georgian era, of Victorian and Edwardian stained glass, of twentieth-century windows and of historic plain glazing. Our team also provide an unparalleled advisory service, which includes technical and art historical analysis, as well as specialist environmental monitoring and photography.

Members of the YGT are actively involved as committee members of many prestigious national and international professional organisations relevant to the stained glass industry, and are elected fellows of many specialist bodies, underlining the breadth and depth of knowledge of the team. This includes the Institute of Conservation (ICON), the Corpus Vitrearum (CVMA), the British Society of Master Glass Painters (BSMGP), the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass, the Society of Antiquaries of LondonInternational Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the Church Buildings Council, the Stained Glass Museum in Ely, the University of York, and the York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship. Members of the team also serve as specialist advisors on Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committees (FACs), and act as co-opted experts on Diocesan Advisory Committees (DACs).
